Evaluation

This year in English class, I did well on reading books or watching movies silently and on writing.

However, I failed to express my ideas by speeches very well because I'm shy of speaking

in front of many people, so I want to do better on that especially.

Also, I didn't write many journal entries although I have read more to write.

I deserve 5 for my grade because I did try hard and succeeded on most of the parts I tried.

Next year, I deserve to be stay in B advanced because I have to try harder to move up.

My holiday

I spent a special holiday last week; I went to ‘Kosta' in Shanghai. That is kind of an assembly

of churches near Shanghai. It is the first time I participated there and as I'm introverted, I couldn't

participate in the activities aggressively. However, the people in the Kosta jumped and sang

passionately when we sing gospel songs. Since I saw them doing that, I could change myself a bit and

sang passionately, too.

Although I went there for church thing, my main purpose was to meet my friends. I met several people

from SSIS, and several people who left for Shanghai. I was so excited that I shouted when I met them.

We gathered at night after the worships and we talked all night until we fell asleep. Next morning,

we suddenly woke up and realized that it was almost time to assemble. Everyone was so surprised that we

went out without washing.

Although there were several accidents during the Kosta, it was real good experience meeting people

as long as we could take charge of the accidents. If an opportunity is given to me, I would like to participate again.

Acting for Hamlet

I'm acting Hamlet with HaLim as Gertude for scene 4, act3. In that part, Hamlet is really upset about his mother that she is in love with Claudius rather than be sad about the king's death. At first, I thought I only had to act toughly. However, after I watched the scene again, I realized that I have to control myself; sometimes smoothly but sometimes toughly. It will be difficult for me to act really like Hamlet as I'm not so good at shouting. Also, I have to shake HaLim and act more realistic and then HaLim cries. The most difficult part is that I have to memorize all of my lines for Hamlet; it's too long to memorize. I wanted to act Gertrude, but HaLim insisted to act her instead. I will practice and try to act like Hamlet.

International schools and Local schools

I'm going to compare International schools and Korean Local schools. For the first time I came to this school from Korea, I couldn't get used to everything in this school, the way they do was completely different from Korea. Personally, I like SSIS's way much better than Korean local schools'.

Firstly, International schools are usually free to do things. I know there are rules to be obeyed in this school, too, but in Korea, they are much stricter than here, we get to be beaten when we disobey the rules. Some strict teachers in this school might scold me angrily, but at least they don't beat, ever. It is important to make students follow the rule every time, but beating students doesn't always make things go right, it might even make things go worse. Students at my age might even disobey more as he or she would be in puberty so, it would rather be better to solve the problem by talking to them smoothly.

Secondly, education way in two schools is different. Again, education is also free in the international school. We can sometimes choose subjects or so according to your own favorite. In Korean local school, you don't really get much opportunity to choose something you want; you just do what is required.

As a result, as I like the way of international schools, I would like Korean local schools to receive more of the others' way, change and fix the way that was wrong.

Hamlet

In English class, we have watched two different kinds of Hamlet; one was a movie by famous actors and another was a play film which was filmed during the real play. The first one wasn't really long as some parts were omitted. However, the second one had almost all of the detail parts of the story and it was too long and I even felt boring sometime during the play. I could get better understandings from the movie as it showed the main points simply, but I think too detailed play doesn't give me strong impression about the main points. In addition, not only the actors had better appearance on the movie, but also I personally thought the actors on the movie acted better than the actors on the play. Lastly, backgrounds in the movie were like real but on the play, as they had limited stage, the backgrounds were not really vivid.

In conclusion, I personally prefer to watch the movie rather than the play if you like to enjoy Hamlet as they are really vivid, and you feel like you are in the movie.
